And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.’ Colossians 3:17.

The mission of The King’s School is ‘to support parents in discipling young people who know God and are trained to serve and influence their generation through godly attitudes and actions’. In the light of this, we seek to equip young people with the ability and confidence to recognise their unique strengths and their identity in Christ, and to apply this to their decision-making alongside parental support and advice, so that they can meet their potential. We have a dedicated careers program to address this.

From the start of Year 7, pupils will have encounters with employers and employees in assemblies and are given the opportunity to reflect on each career afterwards. Careers are also taught within the curriculum and as one-off events, which in recent years have included visits from TESLA, a Year 7 and 8 STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) afternoon, and an annual Year 9 Lego challenge with a focus on careers.

In Year 9, pupils begin to consider the world of work as part of their PSHE program, and in Years 10 and 11 they consider how biblical wisdom and spirit-led faith can help them as they consider next steps and career pathways. They attend the biennial TKS Careers Fair which is always well supported by parents and local businesses. The Year 11 PSHE programme also includes visits from local sixth forms, colleges and apprenticeships providers, and a visit from the mission organisation OSCAR. In addition, every Year 11 pupil has an individual careers interviews with a trained Careers Advisor, and undertakes a week’s work experience placement in the autumn term.

At The King’s School we work within the framework of the Gatsby 8 benchmarks, which aim for excellence in careers provision across 8 different areas. Further information on the Gatsby 8 can be found here: Good Career Guidance | Education | Gatsby.

We assess the impact of our careers program through regular evaluation against the Gatsby 8 benchmarks; feedback from pupils and contributors after events; and the annual parent survey. All of this informs future planning and we are constantly making changes to offer the best careers program we can. If you would like to request more information about the careers program, please contact the school at office@tkswitney.org.uk.
